Windows files on external hard drive became unix exec files

Specs: Macintosh
Hi

Slotted a old thumbdrive (it was a folder containing powerpoint and word files etc, on a Windows format) on Ipad Pro (latest) but the files couldn't be read. When I tried to open the thumbdrive on a Mac or Windows, the whole folder is now seen as an unix exec file with 0 KB.

Is there a way to convert it back in a folder?

Tried googling, and using terminal commands, here's some of the output:

ls -ld file

output:
ls -ld /Volumes/Untitled/My\ Teaching <name of the file>
-rwxrwxrwx@ 1 <my username> staff 0 Mar 29 2019 /Volumes/Untitled/My Teaching

Help?

It's probably corrupted. Thumb drives are not reliable enough for secure storage.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

"Thumb drives are not reliable enough for secure storage."

Agreed. While the technology is getting somewhat better, it (and SSD) still has a way to go to match "spinning rust"
