Specs: Imac G3 10.2.8
screen is blank when it comes on.
I hold down S, and command key, and the computer asks
localhost: root #
what is this, pls.

Please only post once, posting multiple times will not get your question answered faster.

Please understand, that Mac OS-X is not Mac OS. Mac-OS-X is nothing more than a version of BSD UNIX with a GUI overlayed on top.

If you are receiving an error message asking for a root password, or a prompt asking for root, the easiest thing to do is re-load the OS. Pop in the OS-X CD, reboot, and hold the C key down.

Follow the on-screen instructions.

512mb RAM

ATi 9200 PCI

thanks, but that's the problem. I don't have any CD's for this mac to reload.
