Specs: Macintosh 10.12.6 , 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5/4GB
Mac desktop using 10.12.6. For many reasons, a computer has to shut down and then re-boot. If I shut down, it's a devil of a job trying to get it to restart. Sometimes resetting the PRAM works. Sometimes, it starts up by itself hours later. What to do?

Examine the motherboard, looking for damaged components such as 'puffy' or leaking capacitors. Also if possible, swap in a different power supply.

Assuming this is a MacBook, take it to a local non-Apple mac repair store, and explain the symptoms. Certain generations had undersized capacitors or self-desoldering issues, and both of which can be affected by heat. Depending on exactly what's happening and the exact year/model of of the MacBook, there may be a known hardware fix.

If it’s a Mac Mini it might be overheating. Check all the base air inlets etc are fully clear of accumulated dust.

It's a Imac mc511ll/a all-in-one. Getting inside these is fairly tricky so unless you are very skilled at computer repair you would be advised to take it to a repair shop. If there is an Apple Store near you they would be best placed to test the computer, advise you of the fault and probable cost of repair.

These machines are not really designed for end-user servicing.

Macpaw and the company behind it has a very chequered history. There are a lot “how wonderful” it is... and some “very” much the opposite.

Clean my Mac is (based on reviews) the foundation of it, and that has been slammed in the past.

Would be interesting to know what exactly the problem was which macpaw resolved...?
