powerbook g4 won't start from start up disk

I am trying to restart from the original start up disk in order to erase hard drive and give this laptop to my kid. Unfortunately, it seems to be stuck in a 'restart loop'. I've tried starting from disk by holding how C key while booting but I get a message "you need to restart your computer". Which I tried and got the same results. So, I tried launching OSX icon from my desktop and again received restart message. I can hear the SuperDrive spin the cd but I cannot seem to launch from the disk. Any ideas?

The restart message usually means disc, drive, or bad RAM issues.

Confirm that you Superdrive and Startup discs work by using Disk Utility to copy them to hard drive. Then, make a copy to DVD and try booting from that instead.
