* Insert the Mac OSX CD/DVD into the machine's CD/DVD drive and power on the machine.
* Press and hold the "C" key while the system is booting.
* Select your language preference
* Select Password Reset or Reset Password depending on your version of OSX under the Utilities menu.
* Select the hard disk that contains the user account of the forgotten password.
* Then, select the username of the account that you would like to reset the password for.
* Enter the new password when prompted.
* Reboot the machine as normal and log in using the new password.

Let me know if you have any questions.

I did what you said to do and as soon as I typed in my password, the window flipped and the screen turned blue and would go no further. I am able to send this reply because I opened a new account, but it is in an old version and only the apps and files that were on my computer before this blue screen are the only ones I can get to. Should I just take my computer to an apple repair shop and see if things can be transferred to a new computer. Thanks for your help.

It sounds like there may be other errors on your Mac. I would definitely take it to a shop to get checked out as there may be hardware errors or other underlying problems.

Sorry that I could not be more help! :(
