Welcome to Computing.net! I apologize for the tardiness in getting to resolving your issue.

Do a "Repair Disk" in Disk Utility. You can find Disk Utility by pressing Command+Space, then typing disk util in the Spotlight panel. From there, select the drive that you are backing up to (such as a Time Capsule), and find the "Repair Disk" button in the First Aid pane of the window.

If you are backing up to the same drive that you are using, this is not recommended--for one thing, it can make data retrieval harder on your hard or solid state drive. It is recommended to instead hook up an external drive that you know you can have hooked up on a regular basis, purchase and use a Time Capsule, or turn Time Machine off altogether. The truth is that while Time Machine is a very nice feature of OS X 10.5 and later, if you are conscientious enough, you can create a few Smart Folders, insert a flash drive, and backup your stuff manually.

I hope this information helps answer your Mac question. Thank you for posting--it's been great to help you today.
