How long has it been like this, a long time or did it just start?

What programs are you running and how old are they (newer programs are memory and cpu-hungry)? You may need to "up" the RAM. Also, depending on your demands, the 1.3GHz processor could be an issue.

iMac G5 1.8GHz "Hero" PowerPC
2 x 1GB DDR PC3200 SDRAM
160GB WDC WD1600JD-40GBB2
Mac OS X Leopard Version 10.5.8
