my imac will not do anything

Specs: Windows XP
i turn on my imac and it starts with the white screen with the apple then a grey colour comes down the page and it says hold power button for a few seconds or press the reset button i turn it off and then on and it does the same thing what is going on please help me

yes i have and i called someone at the mac store to help and they told me to hold the option and command and p and r buttons at the same time then hold the power butonuntill the compuer come on and off three time then see what it does i did this and the screen changed to a smaller apple then it says the same thing so now what have any other ideas

Sounds like your hard drive could be fizzed. Your seeing the startup splash screen and when it comes time to load the operating system, it can't find it and repeats the process. If you don't feel comfortable messing with it, take it to a shop. Good Luck....

I think that Macs normally come up with a question mark in a folder icon to indicate hard disk failure, so I doubt it's that.

OP - have a look at the troubleshooting procedures from Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3742 . The first thing to do, as advised there, is to try restarting in safe mode. You might also want to think if you have made any changes to the Mac recently, or added any new hardware.
