My daughter has forgotten her password on her MacBook Pro

Specs: Mountian Lion
and I have gone into recovery mode to try and re-install OS X Mountain Lion - Gives 2 options: Recovery HD and Mac HD. Clicking on either is asking for a password to Unlock the disk? This we have no clue of either.
I need to at least get her computer going again, even if it means loosing all her stuff. Her really important school stuff, she was smart enough to save in the 'cloud'
Thank You.

From Apple land; seems to be a not infrequent experience.

Having done it myself at least once (possibly twice) I know it happens... I hadn't ever used my Macbook in the full logon mode (requiring a logon/password); then set it to do so - and couldn't for the life of me remember which of god only knows how many assorted passwords was the one the Mac... I went the route above (or something like); and ended up with all together three accounts (all mine) on the system. Finally managed to discover how to reset the respective accounts (forgotten password) and now can access them all OK )using the same password for al three - as I'm the only one using this Macbook).

Moral - ensure you have a hardcopy of the password somewhere you can see/find it; and also email it to yourself - suitably disguised as it were as to what it relates to. Save the email(s) in the saved messages folder of the account(s). Email can be used a little like "cloud storage" - within reason.

Also although daughter has already saved critical stuff in the Cloud.. might be worthwhile also to save it to dvd at least; and if possible to an external hard drive... And don't forget Time machine backups...
