ms word for mac won't save document

Microsoft Word:mac 2008

Specs: Macintosh
I have had problems with a couple of large documents (30 pages or so, with photos) that won't save to the hard drive, flash drive, or cd. This also locks up the program. It saves a recovery document but then when I try to add to that document it won't save. Anyone else have this problem or a solution?

I talked to Apple last night. The save worked when I put the document in .docx and each time I saved I did "save as" because "save" still didn't work. Then I maxed out the space for the document and couldn't add anything else. This is only a 30 page document with about 35 pics in it. In other words, it looks like Microsoft made a piece of crap for the Mac. If anyone out there knows how to get around this I sure would appreciate it.

Maybe you should try to compres the images so that they are not in full resolution and taking up a lot of space? Chances are that you have just copied them into the document and pulled their corners to make them smaller, but if it is a large photo file, it will still take up the same amount of space.

Thanks. I went to the Apple store and they showed me how to make my photos smaller. I'm hoping that this will take care of it. I just don't understand how I did the exact same thing in Word for Windows and never, ever had a problem with it. I did 100+ pages plus that many+ photos and never had anything go over 1mb!!! Microsoft obviously made a crappy product for the Apple!
