Specs: Macintosh
We are moving from California to South Dakota in October and will have a new ISP and new email addresses in our new home. I will notify my personal correspondents of my new email address, but how can I set it up after I have cancelled my old account here to forward emails to the new email address and make sure I do not lose anything important?

You should create a webmail account with Yahoo, Gmail etc. then you won't ever have to worry about using an ISP based email address. Notify all your contacts that as of a certain date, you will no longer be using your old email address. Once you create a new online account, send out a mass email to all your contacts that you're up and running on the new mail address and will no longer be checking your old address.

A lot of ISP's will also put a forward on your email account to ensure you dont miss any new email for a certain period of time. Depending on the ISP they may even let you keep the address, and have options in their webmail to forward new emails. You will want to contact your ISP to know what options they provide.

Agreed on the webmail for personal use, google also has options if your looking to utilize your own domain name.

Are you asking how to backup your current emails? or just new ones? Thanks.

Thanks. I already have two online email accounts. What I really need to know is if there is a website that will forward for me. I know there used to be such a site because I used it several years ago when I switched ISPs. Have you heard of anything like that?
Thanks for your response though--I really appreciate it!
