Macbook pro won´t backup:(

Specs: Mac OSX 10.5.8
Hi! I managed to drop my 5 year old macbook pro on the floor. When I turn it on it starts to boot but dies after 30 sec. I tried to connect it to my powermac G5 through firewire and backup the macbook harddrive. When I try to copy files on to the powermac hd it starts to copy but stops after 10% and shows me a error(-36), the information could not me read or written. I suspect it has something to do with permission from the macbook drive, but since I cant manage the OS I can´t log on to the admin. When I OK the error message the copy-session is almost finished but it just buffers stating there is 5 sec left but nothing happens.

If you could help me I can stop hating myself for not backing up:)
Thanks!

When you save you hook up to the G5 via firewire, do you mean you use Target Disk Mode (TDM)? If so, when you use TDM, it ignores all permissions on the drive in Target mode, so it's not a permissions error. It could be a hardware problem with the Macbook Pro as you say it dies after 30 seconds when you try and boot normally. Or it could be an issue with the hard drive itself. The best way to determine which would be to physically remove the drive from the Macbook Pro and put it in external enclosure for backup/testing purposes.
