Thank you for using Computing.net! I'd be glad to help you out. Please open System Preferences from the Apple menu (located at the extreme left top corner of your screen) and find International under the Personal category. Click the Input Menu or Input tablet to make the Keyboard pane active, if not active already, and check the keymap that is applicable to your country.

You can also enable the Input menu which allows the computer to show a flag icon in the menubar to alternate keymaps.

Open TextEdit to test the new settings. If your Y key is still not working, restart, and on all models, press Cmd+Opt+P+R immediately after the chime. Hold this down until the fourth chime, and release the keys.

Your keys should be working properly at this point. If not, you may have a problem with your hardware. Contact an Apple service center to get your Mac repaired.

Glad to help you. If the answer given was helpful to you, please give it a thumbs up. If you have more questions, please feel free to post back.
