iMac G4 behaving badly

February 24, 2010 at 10:28:56
Specs: OS X (10.3.9)
I love my iMac but it has been giving me trouble. Everything will be going great then the desktop starts to scramble like a kaleidescope to the point you cant use it or see what you're looking at...then a gray transparent curtain covers the screen with a dark box window in about 4 languages telling me to shut down. I turned off screen saver and the sleeper which helped alittle. There's no pattern....it just does this whenever it chooses. Also when I do get to tell it to shut down....the gray curtain falls across the screen with the dark box window telling me to use the power off button to shut down.

Trae, the answer to your question posted in the Hardware forum is, yes, you can pick up a virus from a CD, although that would be fairly rare. I have friends who apparently got a virus from a Disney CD which someone sent them (although they don't remember ordering it). This couple didn't even have Internet on their Win XP PC, and the problem started after they installed this unsolicited Disney disk ... scrambled all of their fonts; was able to walk the husband thru finding System Restore, and that fixed it. Let us know if your free ClamX helps with your Mac problem.
