Solved how to remove java

Specs: Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks)
I just downloaded the new operating system on my iMac computer. Soon after, I had a message that my Java App. was out of date, so I downloaded Java 7.5 (I think that's the number). Anyway, I am a high school teacher, and later in the day I tried to get to our electronic gradebook, but I could not log on.

Today I learned that PowerTeacher (a Pearson Company product) does not run on Java 7. How can I remove it from my computer and go back to Java 6?

Thank you. I watched the video and followed all the steps; however, when I went to to verify that I had the right system, I discovered I was missing a plug-in. Fortunately, though, I was able to go to an external back-up drive and find an older version saved there, reinstall it, and open the grade book. Thank you SO MUCH!
