Solved How to block FaceBook on Mac?

Specs: Mac
What should I do If I don't want someone to access a website on my Mac. How can I completely block it? It's actually my daughter. She spends too much time on Facebook and keeps company with bad people. I don't want her to use Facebook any more. I have tried the parental controls, but I think she find way to bypass it. Any suggestion?

However, if your daughter knows how you blocked it she can just as easily unblock it.
But try it anyway, she may not have a clue how you did it, depends how computer savvy she is.

There is only one 100% effective way and that's to close your internet account - not very appealing I'm sure.

You can use Terminal to block a specific website. Do as following:
1. Go to "Applications" > "Utilities", open "Terminal" and type the following:
sudo nano /etc/hosts

2. Terminal will then ask you for your password. Enter the Administrator password for the computer. This should bring you to a text file with the words "Host Database" at the top.

3. Type the following line to the bottom of the file:

4. Hit the "Control" and "O" keys on the keyboard simultaneously, then hit "Return" to save the file. Close the terminal window. The website that you have specified is now blocked. To unblock it, just delete the line added by you just now.

However, the above way is only for those people with certain computer skills. If you are stranger to computer, I suggest you use external parental controls program like Aobo Mac filter( It is much easy to use.

I have tried quite a few internet filters on my family Mac computer. It is a bit touch-and-go finding good software that offers parents enough control to restrict pornographic and violent images. By searching in Google, you will get a lot. Hope it can help u.

To block websites, you can try the following ways:
1. You could install a free personal firewall or web filter software to block any website.
2. If you have a router, it has a built-in administrator page that allows you to control what is accessible on the internet and what is not. However, , it actually depends on the complexity of the router's software.
3. If using IE, you could also edit the list of restricted sites (tools- internet options-security - restricted sites), but this may not help you if you are using some other browser.
