How do I get the word under the icon on my Mac?

Hi I am teaching my son the computer and which icon does what. How do I get the icon to display what it is under the icon on my Mac?

Also - now I'm on a Mac desktop...

If you right click on an icon there is list of options - a menu list. One of them is rename and another is "get info"

The last one gives you assorted options and shows the current folder name too - and you can rename it there as well.

There is no way to add ames to icons in the "dock" - that line of icons usually across the bottom of screen or one one side of the screen (depends where you put it). Apparently that option died in version 11 of Mac OS from what I read online
