Welcome to Computing.net!

This is normal. Silverlight is a Microsoft technology which has been developed for multiple platforms, which allows web integration with applications and media, and also allows certain videos written for the Silverlight platform to run on your Mac. This program usually installs as an add-on with programs such as the Microsoft Office for Mac suite, version 2008 and later.

Solution:
To remove the plug-in, switch to the Finder. You can do so by clicking its icon in the extreme left of the Dock (the band of icons running across the bottom of the screen). In the Go menu, click "Go to folder..." Type in (with no quotes): '/Library/Internet Plug-ins' and press return. Move the Silverlight plug-in to the trash, and type in your password to continue. Empty the trash and restart your browser to complete uninstallation.

(Note that if you installed another program that relied on Silverlight as a dependency, it is recommended not to remove the plug-in.)
