How can I play mp4 on OS9?

October 20, 2010 at 14:51:55
Specs: Macintosh OS 9.2.2, G3/256
My DVD player on a 2000 imac says it can't find "DVD gadget".
Is there a way to make it play movies from an external USB1 drive?
DVDs used to work in this computer 10 years ago when it was new.

Personally, I think it is time to hunt on eBay for a new DVD drive, as your DVD drive is most likely done by now--eleven years is quite a while for an optical drive from 2000. However, yes, you can play movies using a flash drive, or by using an external DVD drive that you can find online which plugs into the USB ports or the FireWire (recommended if you want your iMac to see it and boot off a CD in it) port on the side of your computer.

To play .mp4 files from any device in OS 9, download, install, and open QuickTime.

Thank you for allowing me to assist you. If you found this helpful, please give it a thumbs up as a way of saying "thanks".
