Specs: Macintosh
i have a macbook and i hooked up a vga cord to a 22" divex tv so i can watch dvd through my computer for college. When i hooked it up it just has the default background image but no icons and when i play anything it doesn't respond or change :( do i have to do something on my computer or tv or what??

Your display is currently in "spanned" mode. This allows the two monitors (your computer's built-in display and the TV) to operate independently. You can drag windows between the two for additional desktop space.

What you're looking for is called "mirrored" mode. This will show the same image on both monitors. To change to mirrored mode, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen, choose "System Preferences", then click "Displays". From here, click on the center "Arrangement" tab. Finally, click the "Mirror Displays" option in the bottom left.

To see the "Arrangement" tab, your computer will need to be hooked up to your TV. If it is and you still don't see the tab, click "Detect Displays" in the lower right.
