Specs: mac osx, intel core duo
in mac mail 4.4 i receive an error message saying that the e-mail is too large and cannot send. the total size attachments and body of the email are under 9mb. are there any settings within the client that restrict size? Also, this is attached to an exchange server. outlook on a pc could send the email just fine.

Thanks,
Jason

First of all, welcome to the Computing.net Mac forum! :)

It is a rule of thumb (or was; it is possible technology has moved on since) to not let e-mails exceed 1 MB, unless you are e-mailing within a cloud or an e-mail system that allows 10 MB. It is entirely possible that your e-mail network is not permitting an e-mail with that size from being sent out from that computer. Try compressing the data, or sending a smaller e-mail, after which I believe your e-mail should work.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I hope this answers your question. Thank you for allowing me to assist you today. :)

Thanks for the reply. We are using Exchange 2007 for our mail server. We do have it set to limit email to 10mb. As I mentioned before, mail 4.4 on mac would not send the email, but outlook 2007 was able to send it. Both clients are connected to the same server. I will definitely check to see if the server is not allowing that Mac to send emails of that size. Also, we have another identical mac that uses entourage (personal preference to do so) and we have never had any issues from that. I will check the server but if you find anything on Mail 4.4 for mac having some client side restriction please let me know. Thanks :)

Thanks,
Jason

Thank you for your reply. It is certainly helpful!

I believe that while OS X 10.5 "Leopard" and 10.6 "Snow Leopard" did indeed implement tighter Exchange Support, it may be possible that using Outlook or Entourage may temporarily, (until 10.7 "Lion" is released, which will release much better Exchange options and tighter support), fix your 9 MB e-mail problem, as Entourage or Outlook (which is now available for OS X on the Intel architecture) will most likely handle things in a more intregrated fashion if you are using a Microsoft software-based server.

Please keep me updated on any progress, questions, or anything else you wish to post about. :) If this answer did solve this issue, then, it has honestly been a pleasure to help you.

Thank you for your assistance. I have pretty much narrowed it down to a Mac mail issue. I will look into "Lion" more to see if its release will help me better.

Thanks,
Jason

You're certainly welcome. Yes, "Lion" will have much better Exchange intregration and full support you're looking for--like I said, stick with Outlook on Mac for now. Your "Mac mail issue" analysis was pretty good, as well. :)

Post back any time with any other concerns regarding your Mac you may have. Have a great day.
