Do I need to use the apple airport ?

Specs: Macintosh
I have dsl service with at&t without a modem or router it goes directly into the back of my Mac into the ethernet. The problem is I don't need a modem to receive internet and I don't know what to use as a router for wireless internet. i bought a trendnet and i see it in my airport but no internet goes through the laptop which is also Mac. Does this mean I need to buy the apple extreme airport base? Or does it matter what kind of router I use? At&t told me i do not need a modem because I have direct dsl line without a modem. I'm so confused!!!!

You only need a Wireless Cable Router, you need to configure the Router to send out the Wireless Signal with appropriate Security Settings.

The Macs, what one of the hundreds of models which have been manufactured?? you forgot to list anything at all, has to be configured to be able to communicate with the Wireless Router......
