Hi i don't know much about mac's and not sure if going through itunes is the only way to get apps. Its an old ibook powerbook 4.1. I want to get skype and audacity for my mum to use this machine and any other music making/production type apps if there is anything else. Since i already know how to use Audacity it will be easy to instruct her over the net how to use it as she is not very tech savvy. I am a linux and rarely windows user.;
I just realised o did install skype a couple of weeks ago but i couldn't get it to run. It seemed to have installed but wouldn't open. I downloaded 2.8.0.866 . I just found it under applications, utilities, skype and i double clicked it, it bounced in the dock a couple of times and then disappear. How do i uninstall if this is the wrong version of skype and then how do i find the real one. I googled but i don't have enough knowledge top know what i am doing.

First off you need to run 'Software Update' before going any further to ensure the OS X 10.4.x is up-to-date.

Then you just need to install compatible Software for PPC Machines, most new Software is for Intel Machines.

http://mac.oldapps.com

Providing specs states 'PPC or Legacy' and OS X 10.4 compatible you will be OK

Skype: http://mac.oldapps.com/skype.php?ol...

VLC: http://mac.oldapps.com/vlc_player.p...

Googling is quicker than waiting for an answer....

Yes i found that update thing and ran it the other day. It said it is up to date. I read somewhere that this is all i will get in updates :0)

Sorry what do you mean by PPC? I think it is a legacy machine. I am presuming ofcourse as there are no updates :0)

OK will get on the old mac and check those pages soon

Regards Apple OS X Macs:

PPC (PowerPC) is the type of CPU used in Legacy Machines prior to 2007

Newer Mac's use Intel CPU.

The two CPU architectures are completely different, hence why newer software is not compatible, unless the software creator has written a Legacy version..

I am looking on the sourceforge website for old versions of audacity but so far can't seem to sort out which version
