Specs: Macintosh
My husband was deleting the Classic OS 9 from my
imac and, well, he deleted the wrong one. Now, my imac
won't start up and I don't have the original cd's to start up
or re install my OS. I downloaded one but can I start up
or install from a memory USB stick? HELP!!!

When you had Deleted OS Accidentally its gone but i am afraid you must had backed up your files.Normally not i guess now you want to recover you files or OS it is possible by using Stellar Phoenix Macintosh Data Recovery software.Try the free demo version first if the files are shown on preview then its sure that your all files will be recovered with the same name and size..Cheers

You ALWAYS need to have an OS 9.2.2, and OS-X CD around just in-case something like this happens.

If you want to run classic, simply pop the CD in and re-install. If you want to run OS-X, simply pop the CD in and reinstall.

Data recovery 0_o? For deleting OS files? No. Just re-install, if that doesn't work, you move on from there.

Thank you for your replies. I'm not as interested in getting my files as I am in getting my computer back. I really want my computer functioning.

A friend of mine lent me his OS10 CD's. I turned my computer on and went to the Classic 9 OS and tried to install the system but it just won't work.

It keeps telling me I need 'firmware update'. I could really kill someone!!

So, you can boot into OS 9? I'm very confused. You stated that the machine could not boot. Why can't you just use OS 9? What version OS 10 were you given? Were they retail CD's? I need more information than this to work with.

And what machine is this? Beige G3 desktop/tower, toilet seat iBook? early white iBook? blue and white G3/G4?

Need details
