Solved Can't open OpenOffice on MACbook Pro. Error message warning

May 6, 2015 at 08:43:49
Specs: Macintosh
I can't open OpenOffice.org 3.2 on my macbook pro. It keeps giving me the error message: Either another instance of OpenOffice.org is accessing your personal settings or your personal settings are locked. Simultaneous access can lead to ins=consistencies in your personal settings.

What do I do?

OK, open launchpad, find the open office icon, click it and drag it to the trash. Then go to this link and download and install the latest version. Click on the black apple at the top of your menu bar and click "about this mac" to see what operating system you have 32 or 64 bit.

I am having a hard time quitting the Open Office app so wonder if that is why it didn't work. I'm a novice or dummy on this stuff.

Thank you, thank you!!! I was able to uninstall the old OpenOffice. I then downloaded the newest version and installed it and now it works fine. The only thing different from what you suggested was that I couldn't uninstall OpenOffice by dragging the icon from the LaunchPad to the trash. I had to open the Applications folder and drag it from there to the trash. Thanks again! BTW, I have a 64 bit OS.
