First things first: how are you going to get a copy of OS X to install?

Hmm. That all sounds a bit suspect.

Unless you own an Apple computer you are not entitled to use either Mavericks or Yosemite. The licence is non-transferable so if your friend gives you a copy he is pirating the software.

It's VERY difficult to impossible to do what you want to do. Besides being illegal like ijack says, you will have driver issues and unless you know what you're doing, you'll probably screw up your hard drive and end up with a paperweight. Your best bet is to buy a Mac and using Boot Camp, you can install windows on the Mac.

Even if you managed to get a Mac OS onto a non Mac system, general advice/experience "out there (Skully)" is that it won't really work properly. Some have managed a half baked system and nothing more...

Bottom line - and including all the legal niceties... - you want a Mac OS - buy a Mac computer whichever model... Macs will run windows in a dual boot scenario. This is via Parallels (a VM system for windows running in a Mac environment) - or via BootCamp (Apple's free boot manger); and note too that you can have only one windows installation at a time with BootCamp.

A question that I guess I should have asked even before "first things first". Why do you want to run OS X?
