A google search says it's compatible with Mac IOX 10.5. What OS are you running?

Are you connecting it via a usb hub, or directly into one of the Mac's own built-in usb ports?

Also have you checked it out with another known to be good cable; and usb cable length may be an issue if going via a hub...? It certainly is for usb connected SSD drives - generally they don''t like going via a hub, nor with a long cable (directly into the Mac via a SATA-usb adapter system).

I have a Macbook Pro (2010) running el Capitane and have found that for all flavours of Mac OS (Snow Leopard and later) some external usb DVD drives don't work via a hub on a Macbook Pro system. (I also have a Mac Mini. and the same applies there.)

I have two rather ancient Liteon (large external) cd/dvd drives; and also a slim-line model; and a couple of Samsung slim-lines. They will work via hub - usually; but on occasion I need to go direct into the MacBook/Mini.

Also I seem to recall that you may occasionally have manually "add" the external unit into the Mac's profile as it were? But it's been so long since I had to I'm not clear on the how/when etc. just now.
