Specs: OS X Tiger, 1.6 Ghz/ 1Gb RAM
I was given a faulty iMAC G5 17" without a HDD and after replacing the logic board it worked. I installed a new HDD and bought a set of used G5 OSX 10.4 Tiger on Ebay. When I install the install disc 1 I get a language selection screen the the next screen loads and I get an ALERT pop up saying "This software cannot be installed on this computer" I have used the Utilties to erase and format the drive in every option available, I've used another MAC to create an image disc but still no luck. Does anyone have any ideas, I've read about using MAC mouse and keyboard which I have used

Possibly the Discs are not for that Model, many are tied to architecture.

Did you check that version iMAC is compatable with OSX 10.4 you bought ??

You may need a Retail Box Set.

As you probably guessed I'm a MAC virgin. I just looked on Ebay for iMAC G5 discs. I think I'll take your advice and contact an Apple Retailer and the Retail Box set you recommended.
Many thanks for your response
Kind Regards Steve

It sounds like you purchased a model specific version of the OS. You have to be careful when purchasing copy's of Mac OS above 9.2.2. Apple switched to Unix and they deploy OS install disc's that only install on the model specific machine it shipped with.

Throw those dvd/cd's in the trash and purchase a used "Retail" copy of OS-X for PowerPC macintosh's

PowerMac 9600(1 ghz G4)
512mb RAM
50gb SCSI
ATi 9200 PCI
