Adaptect 2906 SCSI issue.

Specs: Mac OS X (10.4 Tiger), 400Mhz G4 / 1GB
I have a PowerMac G4 (It's a Sawtooth with AGP graphics, 1GB RAM/400Mhz, waiting to obtain a cheap 500Mhz chip I ordered online) anyways I have a problem:

This system was given to me, I have Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger on it, before that the person who gave it to me had OS9.2 on it (which he pulled that drive so I'm running off a new drive) and he also gave me an external SCSI hard drive, which he showed me working fine on 9.2, however I cannot seem to get the SCSI hard to work in OS X, it's an Adaptec 2906, it doesn't show up under SCSI controllers under system profilers but it does show up under PCI devices, but just as a generic PCI device with the ID of SCSI (with some random stuff afterwards that I can look up again if need be) I'm fairly new to Mac/Apple systems, I tried moving it to different PCI slots, etc, but no luck, I just can't get it to work, I'm not sure of the brand of the external HDD, I'm fairly certain it was just universal external enclosure with a SCSI HDD thrown in (no markings what-so-ever on the casing, no model numbers, nothing).

Any idea what the problem could be?
