How do I get my laptop back to working standards again? (Getting Debian to work is a bonus, don't really need it)

Basically I tried to install Debian x64 (possibly without UEFI, don't know, though it had an EFI file on the cd) but I thought I knew the risks and was NOT going to install grub and use EasyBCD to modify the Windows 8 bootloader to include Debian.
Did that. Didn't work. Now says no bootable device, not in any bootloader, think its the BIOS. Don't know why the bootloader was modified if GRUB wasn't installed but anyway, how do I get it to work again. Posting this as I look for a Ubuntu Boot CD (don't like the beep at the start of the debian one...)

Complicate it even more. It was a Win7 laptop, but Windows 8 was installed as a dualboot.
