which linux ubuntu for my laptop

Specs: Linux Ubuntu, 850/128
i have a hp pavilion n5450 128mb ram 850mhz cpu 20gb hard drive 8mb video ram and i just got
ubuntu 10.10 for it when i tried installing it it failed so will ubuntu 9.10 work and which version should i use for somewhat fast working

You don't have enough RAM to install Ubuntu, let alone run it. You're going to have to use a lightweight distro such as Puppy.

Have you looked at any of the minimum system requirements? Ubuntu requires 256MB just to install & the minimum recommended to run it is 512MB. Lubuntu will run with 128MB, but I believe it still needs 256MB to install it.
