usb not running at 2.0 in ubuntu 11.04

Specs: Ubuntu 11.04, intel atom 1.6/1gb ram
Just installed ubuntu on an advent 4213 (g10il in America) and its all great apart from usb is not running at full speed but 1.1. Don't understand why, running updates hasn't sorted it and i can't seem to work out how to update drivers manually? Internet implies it may be problem in bios but i am not savvy enough to work out what, when i load into bios i can find nothing about usb.

What you say is almost to the point of impossible. A 2.0 chip is a combination of a 2.0 chip and a real 1.x chip for backward compatibility. From the OS point it has to be able to run the 2.0 communication part in order to steer the usb to the correct chip.

So we get to the question what is going on. Could it be as you suggest and it could, but I can't see how from the OS side..
Then what is left?
What is left is a device on the usb hub that is not reported or being used correctly.
Could be a bios setting that forces usb to 1.x or only legacy.
Near impossible that an atom board would have a usb 1.x. It is possible that the 2.0 part has burned out or in some weird deal the power part is switched off and didn't power off the 1.x part.

I'd try some other live cd like Fedora or OpenSuse or even OpenIndiana or a BSD to triple check what is going on.
