Hi i have Ubuntustudio 14.04.5 and the system has been bugging me to upgrade to 16.04.1. I think i have copied most files over to an external drive and i got that firefox sync thing happening. What else do i need to save or back up? I tried learning how to use proper backup software years ago but just never mastered it. Also how long does it take for the upgrade to happen? Does it do a clean install or overwrite and keep my files? "The meaning of life is to be happy and useful" Tenzin Gyatso the 14th Dalai Lama
You should keep your data backed up all the time, not just when you want to update the operating system. Why? If the hard drive fails you can easily re-install Ubuntu on a new drive but your data is lost if you don't keep it backed up!
You need to backup all your own files, everything except Ubuntu Studio itself.
The update process should not affect your data but it's best to play it safe just in case.

yep i have tried many times to sort it out but anyway i should have most of it done now manually...just wanna know what else. Yep had machines fail. Everytime someone says install something they neglect to tell me how to use the software and i end up at a dead end...
