October 1, 2011 at 06:33:53
Specs: Windows 7
I have dual boot OS Windows 7 Ultimate and Ubuntu 10.04 and when I'm using ubuntu it goes off all of a sudden after several minutes of using it therefore i need to reboot my laptop to use it again. Weird because I"ve been using ubuntu for several months now and it never happened before. But when I'm using Windows everything works fine. Can anyone please tell me what's wrong ?

Thanks in advance :)

Is the machine actually shutting down or is the screen just going black?

I don't remember where Ubuntu keeps it's log files but it's worth a look.

Boot to live cd and see if it happens there too. Did you ever run memtest? Check download md5? Could also be some settings like sleep or screensaver or maybe temps off.

If the memory were bad, why wouldn't it happen in windows? It could be that something running on Ubuntu that's using too much memory.

I would still try to find some log files in Ubuntu.
