Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition - Initramfs Problem

Hi All

I have a problem with Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook edition, when attempting to load this Linux system i get the following error: -

BusyBox v1.15.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.15.3-1ubuntu5) built-in shell (ash)
Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
(initramfs)_

At this point i can not do anything, is there anyway to recreate the damaged partitions without destroying the users data? or any way to fix this error at all?

Your help is much appreciated

Tor Fey

Boot to a live usb or live cd or pxe/gpxe boot to some linux os. Then copy off data.

I can't tell if the disk you made was correctly downloaded and copied or if your system doesn't support some part of the distro.

Did it ever work? Was it this same version? Did you use live cd/dvd/usb to install it?

Hi there

Thanks for the reply, I have managed to recover the data, now.
The solution was to use a live usb and use the gksudo nautilus command to grant access to the file required for recovery.

On another note, this problem happens because a friend was upgrading Ubuntu Netbook edition to full Ubuntu 10.10, he cloned his drive first, unfortunately not very well, he then installed Ubuntu full version and then attempted to copy his files over from the cloned drive, it appears what ever he did trashed the partitions. But hay all data recovered so everyone is happy.

Thanks again
