thinkpad 390x ethernet driver for puppy distro

May 22, 2012 at 01:05:28
Specs: Linux i686, 256 mb ram
I have an IBM Think-pad 390X as it has no internal wireless card but I have an Ethernet cable connected and can't get online because the driver to select is not listed. Where can I find the driver? Any help will be deeply appreciated. Thank you for your time.

According to the specs it only has Modem and Infra-red, no mention of Ethernet:

Googling is quicker than waiting for an answer....

Command lscpi may shed some light if there is a nic card and it is on the pci bus.

Booting to other live cd's may offer more clues. Try a knoppix disk.

May be that you are not using the proper way to set network in puppy or bad load of puppy.

Hang up and live.

I have an ethernet port on the left side at the back edge of the laptop. I know there are 2 versions of this Thinkpad 390X. One is with Lenovo and one without. Mine just so happens to be the one without Lenovo. Atleast I don't see Lenovo listed in the Bios when I review what IS inside this here machine. Thank you for the link though I saved it to my faves for reference until I get this thing on line. I do have a Netgear Wireless adaptor I've used with it before but then I would need to get online to download the driver for it to work. At the moment I have to keep the live cd in the drive to load up Puppy. I'll try and put the driver on a flash drive and see what happens.

Thank you Jefro I'll try your suggestions and see what I get. You seem familiar with distros, is Puppy the most functional that you know of for the laptop?
