setting up wireless lan on linux

January 17, 2011 at 20:55:46
Specs: Windows XP/7Home/linux, p4 and celeron
i just loaded Mandriva Spring 2010 onto a Toshiba Satellite 455-.... Laptop

As with every other linux installation I have installed onto this machine, I have been unsuccesful in figuring out how to get the Linux OS to connect to the Internet

I have no idea how to set up the wireless LAN
I found the network icon but couldn't find anywhere to input the WEP SSID

there is a 2wire wireless LAN DSL modem in the house that I can connect to wirelessly with windows7home, but I can't find the input field for the SSID for the Linux side (i've had the same problem with most of the installations of Linux I have tried on the laptop
