Scan a usb hard drive NTFS/Fuseblk

Specs: Windows XP, AMD 2100xp

I am unsure how to go about this. I have a media player that also acts a a USB external hard drive (Mvix) the drive in it is formated as NTFS and its 1TB big.
The Drive has some errors from shutting it off in mid copy , turning off the power. normal use Etc..

I would think a normal scandisk type scan would fix it up, however whenever I try in windows to scan it , my whole computer just freezes up, but when I unplug the USB cord, everything is fine.

Linux(Super OS Ubuntu)
sees it as fuseblk.
I am unable to scan it there either. I don't know how. fsck /dev/sdb1 isn't working

I have a few computers and a few OS, any help would be great.

Drive still works, just when I try to copy stuff off it I get errors sometimes , and some of the video files are corrupted.

Might look at tools like parted magic disk and ultimate boot cd. You can boot live to each.
