Sorry Vaio will not return to factory settings despite use of F8,F10 or F11 keys, when they are used when computer is on and hitting any function key,as Sony emblem comes on before its booting up to be used. Also,it's error message: out of disk.Any one whose gone through this and has a logical reason-explanation as to why this is happening, please pass on any information or resolution that can solve this
Thanks, for effort, knowledge, understanding-greatly appreciated. Charles.

"Also,it's error message: out of disk"

"Out of disk" ?

Are you sure that's exactly what it says - - it doesn't even make sense when you say it??

Please confirm.

From what I could find, the PCV-RX470DS came with Windows Millenium as the OS, not Linux. Looking at the system specs, 128MB was the original amount of RAM; 512MB is the max. Plus it's PC-800 Rambus (RDRAM) so it's definitely an old system. Who replaced WinME with Linux & which version is it? Linux can not be restored by pressing an F-key; you would need to boot off the installation disk.

Here's an explanation of how to fix it but you'll need the disk:
