I want to know how we calculate power and UPS requirements for a server room and servers. Some server require a 15A cable or more. I would also like to know what type of power input we need to consider line one phase /3 phase and total watts.

Also why Watt is sig. less than VA? Is it because of high resistance from the servers? thanks

You need to know the actual under load use, not what it rated for. There are many watt meters and you local power company may already have online access to power usage. Most server rooms are about 50 computer use and the rest is ac and lights but use a watt meter to be sure.

As for the phase, you would decide that based on the electrical installation. We use a single large 3 phase in the rooms to power almost every item in the room. They can run into $80K.

You might want to get a professional to look at this. Sun used to claim that their lower energy use systems would pay for themselves in ac costs.
