Linux ubuntu, or the majority of linux os's apart from arch actually come with all the basic drivers for mouse, keyboard and ethernet etc. you shouldn't need one unless it is not supported.. ie, its not a popular wireless adapter or ethernet controller driver.

I see since you've posted this i'm wondering if the internet works and your simply updating the driver just to keep it updated which is actually not required and least reccommended by specialists because if the driver works fine then there is no reason to download another, unless its a video adapter update or graphics card update that has been developed and they often have performance increases so its ideal to update those drivers.

But on linux graphics card drivers, and all other drivers are not needed off the internet because they come with the cd, or the live online installer.

If your using another computer to write this then your adapter is not supported, look at the supported list of devices over at your linux disto's website.

luck
