There's no such thing as "Linux O/S." Please specify what distribution you are using.

"I am quite sure there is a linux as I have used it for over a year."

No there isn't, at least not in the same way that Windows 7 is an operating system or Mac OS X 10.7 is an operating system. A Linux distribution is a collection of software that together makes up an operating system. "Linux" is the name for the low-level core (the kernel) that all of these operating systems share. Everything beyond the kernel can vary tremendously between distributions (such as the desktop environment used, or the method used to install software). So there are Linux operating system(s), but no single operating system is known as "the Linux operating system." If I needed you to install a piece of software or run a command to diagnose a problem, I need to know what distribution you are using so I can guide you through it. Just like the process for doing something on Windows 3.1 would probably be vastly different from doing something on Windows XP.

To save time trying to identify the distribution, I'll list a few questions. The more you can answer, the more likely it is I'll be able to identify it and help you solve your problems.

1. Are you able to access a terminal / shell prompt?
2. If you are able to access a terminal, what is the output of the command uname -a?
3. If you downloaded the installer for Linux (installed it yourself), do you know what website you downloaded it from?
4. If Linux came with the computer, who is the manufacturer and what is the model name / number?
5. These are screenshots of the most popular desktop environments for Linux. If any of these resemble yours, please say so (I apologize in advance if the images are a little too large):
A. GNOME 2
B. GNOME 3
C. KDE 3.5
D. KDE 4
E. JWM
F. Blackbox

Since I'll need to know these sooner or later anyway, regardless of what distribution you are using, I'll ask them now:

1. What web browser are you using (Firefox, Google Chrome, Konqueror, etc...)
2. Are you using the new version of Yahoo Mail or Yahoo Mail Classic?
3. Does the problem with attachments occur with any size files, or are the ones you are trying to attach rather large?
4. Are you using a media player to listen to streaming music, or listening through your web browser?
5. If you are using a media player, what is it called?
6. If you have other computers on the same network, are they also affected?

I am feeling like a idiot asI am unable to answer most of your questions as my skill level is far short of what you need. I havs seen Gnome refrenced here so I would say thats part of this . Firefox is the web browser.Which version of Yahoo is unknown. It will not allow the attachment of any file regardless of size. What I use to listen to music I suspect is a media player but I dont know. There is one laptop and no more computers. Just when I thought I was getting the hang of this it appears I was fooling myself as I am. more of a idiot than I thought.I was enjoying all these features and one day they all stopped . I did nothing I know of to contribute to their demise.About this time web brower problems began crashing all the time .Iam very grateful for the attention you have given this and wish I was more help. I simply do not posess the skill level you need to assist you in this .Iam not aware of the source of my linux it was installed for me . Bill

"Which version of Yahoo is unknown"

Yahoo Mail Classic looks like this
The new version of Yahoo Mail looks like this

"What I use to listen to music I suspect is a media player but I dont know."

When you listen to the music, do you run a different program, or do you click a link in your browser? If you click a link in your browser, does it launch a different program, or just a new browser page / tab / window?

"About this time web brower problems began crashing all the time ."

If you are using the browser to both listen to the music and add attachments in Yahoo Mail, and the browser is now crashing as well as not letting you do these tasks, the problem is most likely a faulty add-on or plugin. If you would, could you please go to Tools > Add-ons in Firefox and list what plugins and extensions are installed?

Try disabling the extensions and restarting Firefox. If you are able to play music, then it was probably caused by one of the extensions (you can then re-enable them one by one to see which one it is).

If the problem continues after disabling the extensions, then the next likely culprit is Adobe Flash Player. Type about:plugins into the address bar in Firefox and see what version of Adobe Flash Player you are using. Some of the older versions of 10.x had frequent crash problems, so if it is an older one, you may need to update it.

Consider linux mint. It comes with a lot of stuff that helps you play media.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

If you go to distrowatch, posted earlier. You can check out just about all Linus distro's

From there, download a live cd, then run it on your pc.

You can then see if everything you want works. If you like it, you can then install it.

A thank you would be nice, if I have helped.
