Specs: Macintosh 10.5.8
Can I install and run Linux on Mac. For security reasons because I have read that only Linux protects against spyware

Older Macs with a PowerPC processor cannot run Linux, but If it's a newer Mac with an Intel processor, yes it will run Linux. Tutorial here: http://www.tuaw.com/2009/09/07/how-...

No, that's not true. There are several Linux distributions for PPC Macs.

It is not that Linux protects against spyware or other malicious software. It is just that until relatively recently Linux had too small a user base to bother creating such software for. But with the rise in popularity of Linux that is changing.

Agreed. I'd say that OS X and Linux are probably on a par as far as malware is concerned, so not a good reason to install it.
