linux desktop won't connect to ZyXEL modem

Specs: Linux Ubuntu
Won't connect to wired connection. Other laptops (Windows XP) set up and recognized my wireless, just not desktop. When typing 192.168.0.1 it shows connection cannot be established. Please help!

Compare the settings of your linux desktop with the settings of the windows computer?

On windows computer, at command prompt, type in:
ipconfig /all

On Linux computer, open terminal console and type in:
ifconfig

Compare the ip settings and report back.
