kernel source tree....

hey all,

i am very new to Linux.Actually i am trying to understand about linux device driver from ldd3 web page. When i come across the compiling and loading part in this manual,it stated that i have to set up the kernel tree....any ideas on how to set it up? i read something about kernel tree on Internet but somehow i still didnt get any idea on how to do that and i afraid to give a try as i fear i might somehow damage my system....

This link tells you how to install the kernel sources on a Ubuntu system. (It actually tells you how to configure and compile the kernel also, but you can ignore this for your purposes.)

Maybe there is a much easier solution. Why are you doing the most complex task?

Well, if the OP is interested in studying Linux Device Drivers he's going to have to install the kernel sources. It's not as if it's difficult.
