I think you need to master Google first.

Google "install ubuntu on windows".

What do you mean by "on top of"? Do you want to wipe out Windows & replace it with Ubuntu? Or create a Windows/Ubuntu dual boot setup?

Mint > Ubuntu

I don't normally like wubi but it may be the most easy way to try. Wubi is a windows application that will install ubuntu (and a few others) on your windows and correctly set it so that it works.

The problem is that no all installs always work.

1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.

So do you mean parallel or replace windows? Just go ahead and burn CD/DVD and boot from it. Then press install and then...
If you want both, in the setup you have to choose install alongside.
If you wish to replace do wipe & install instead (Also in install options)
This is like the 3/4th screen so just keep going until you get to it.

windows on 1 partition & ubuntu on 2 partition then use the ubuntu boot manager lilo or grub to allow you to select os on system startup or make a boot floppy
