Specs: Windows XP
I have a Tosahiba Satellite laptop without an op and dont want to pay out for a windows operating system. Can I just use Ubuntu as my only operating system? Or do I have to have windows installed already?

You don't need Windows. Just make sure your Toshiba meets the specs to run Ubuntu, and I'd strongly advise you try the Live distribution first, before you commit. You also need to know how to extract an ISO image and burn to disc:

You can't just put the ISO onto the USB stick.

See also www.pendrivelinux.com for ways to install to a flash drive.
