Specs: LInux
Hello

I´m in search of Software which allows me under Linux (Ubuntu,Suse) to run a backup grogramm for Tape Libraries.

I have a HP 6400 48AL Drive which i want to run over Linux.
Good would be opensource, if not then pls let me know what is good for it.

If this is possible for windows 7 64 bit version then lemme know too.

Thank you

Are you trying to make backup copies of the tapes or are you trying to backup hard drive data to tape?

There are maybe a few thousand ways to copy data in linux and W7. The issue is more about how you feel you want to control the aspects of the entire process, Some select on speed alone while others need anything from error checking to how the data is indexed and available for recovery to how it is performed and by who.

W7 can be backed up if are able to access the device but also a large number of ways.

For linux the most basic is tar while MS re-offered msbackup for W7.

I am sure I can't describe any solution on a forum. Many web pages have been devoted to backup means.

You may have to start by checking all the requirements that you need and or want then search from there.

For the most part backup's are a process that each admin uses. Some use clones and some use applications to make a master then add in daily or weekly changes. The whole process is really too large to even guess an answer.

Not really helpful but you ought to look at these pages

How is the tape mounted? As a samba share or ftp or nfs or what?
