February 24, 2017 at 03:27:07
Specs: Ubuntustudio 12.04, 3.2 dual core/8gb
I downloaded something i need to use and this is the extension it has. I understand that i had to run it, navigate to the folder that was created then do make install command....but when i do the cd command it says the directory doesn't exist. I did ls and it does. What have i done wrong? The downloaded file and the folder are in the Downloads directory

Are you sure you are typing in the correct path to the folder in the cd command?
Do the permissions give you access to that folder?

There's not much else that can go wrong.

Yes i copied and pasted. I am not sure about the permissions. Just looked and it said 'create and delete files' is that right?

After extracting the folder, did you check the contents? There might be an INSTALL or README file that explains how to install.

Yes there is riider. I dont understand the instructions. The readme says:======================
Simple Password Store
by Jason Donenfeld
Jason@zx2c4.com
======================

This is a very simple password store that encrypts passwords using gpg and
places the encrypted password in a directory. It can generate new passwords
and keep track of old ones.

Visit the project page for more information: http://zx2c4.com/projects/password-...

Please see the man page for documentation and examples.

Depends on:
- bash
http://www.gnu.org/software/bash/
- GnuPG2
http://www.gnupg.org/
- git
http://www.git-scm.com/
- xclip
http://sourceforge.net/projects/xclip/

- tree

- GNU getopt

The Install one says:Simply typing

make install

should install pass to the standard locations.

The makefile is aware of the following environment variables:

PREFIX default: /usr
DESTDIR default:
BINDIR default: $(PREFIX)/bin
LIBDIR default: $(PREFIX)/lib
MANDIR default: $(PREFIX)/share/man
SYSCONFDIR default: /etc

It doesn't have to be installed from a tarball, you can run $ sudo apt-get install pass from the command line. Instructions are on the project page website included in the README file.

https://www.passwordstore.org/

BTW, why do you feel you need an encrypted password manager?

First we need to unpack the Archive
for that go to terminal tar -xvf exmp.tar.gz
To install package
Please move to directory. In the above example
cd exmp
./configure
make
sudo make install
