You don't need two NICs. Just connect one to the switch as you would any other computer. What particular services do you require from your server?

What do you want to do with the server? That would tell us more.

If you want to run it as a firewall or router or use it as a server for files or applications or what?

Instead of ubuntu server, could you use a dedicated firewall /intrusion monitor distribution instead?

Hi....
I had installed eBox open source UTM firewall through synaptic package manager from Ubuntu OS(server edition). Here we had a router connected to one of the 8-port switch and remaining ports to PC's.
I'm using 2 NIC cards. How should I give connection to those NIC cards? I mean Internet should pass to others through my PC(server).
What are all the settings should be made in that firewall so that it will be active?
Is it possible to see traffic flowing to remaining PC's? And can I block traffic using this firewall to other PC's?
Could you please give guidelines in this regard?

Edian is a complete distro. If you like it you can install it over ubuntu.
